International flights can be coordinated from your city to San Jose, Costa Rica. You will then book a coordinating flight with either Sansa or Nature Air. These two airlines have t several flights daily to Puerto Jimenez. The flight is 50 minutes, and costs approximately $120 each way. If we had to advise you or recommend, we would select Nature Air, as it is a twin-engine plane and the company is ENTIRELY carbon neutral! However, BOTH airlines will get you where you are going!
There are two airports in San Jose. International flights land at the same airport and Nature Air departs and arrives at the smaller airport. If you arrive at the large airport and are flying out same day OR are departing in the morning, please arrange for the quick 20 – 30 minute ride with any state taxi out front of the airport. The ride is approximately $30 and can be split across up to six people in one car.
If you arrive into San Jose after the last flight out has left for Puerto Jimenez, about 2pm daily, you will need to book a hotel for the evening in San Jose, eat a delicious dinner out, and catch a flight out the following morning. We recommend the Hotel Mango at [email protected] and a dinner of plantanos and beans and rice at their in house restaurant! It is a simple place, serves a continental breakfast, has a pool, internet, and is CLOSE to the airport. The hotel will arrange for a car to the airport in the morning, the sansa terminal is a quick $5 – $7 cab ride and the Nature Air terminal is $30 and can be split across up to six people in one car.
Both Sansa and Nature Air restrict the weight you bring with you to one piece of luggage totaling 30 lbs. and a carry on of 10 lbs. You are welcome to bring more than this but the fees start at $25 for additional weight. Details are available on their respective websites.
Once you arrive in Puerto Jimenez at the TINIEST airport you have ever seen, please, hope in the cab we will arrange for you and head to
Orcas de Osa. It would be impossible for the driver to miss you getting off your plane; however, he or she will have your name and will identify him or herself. The ride is about 35 minutes and costs $30 and can be split across up to six people in one car. The drive is GORGEOUS so all cameras OUT!
